About Me

My name is Michael Hooven, and I’m the founder of The Happy Reading Warrior. Before starting my tutoring business, I worked at MOOG, Inc. as a Senior Aftermarket Manager in the Technical Support and Business Development departments. Today, I continue to work as a home-based aerospace sales consultant while following my passion for education and literacy.

I’ve spent several years in education — teaching English in the Atlanta Public Schools, working as a substitute teacher in Buffalo and Williamsville (including supporting special needs students), and providing one-on-one tutoring for students across grade levels. I also serve as a volunteer mentor at the University at Buffalo, helping engineering and business students with their career development and resume preparation.

My goal is simple: to provide personalized, student-centered tutoring that builds confidence, strengthens reading and critical thinking skills, and helps every learner reach their full potential

Five black stars in a row, rating or review symbol.

My son was really struggling with reading and especially pronouncing his R’s something a lot of kids find tricky. I was honestly just hoping to see a little improvement, but I was blown away by the progress he made with Mike. Show More...

Each session is tailored to the student. We review their current strengths, identify areas for growth, and use engaging activities to build skills and confidence.

Yes! We provide both options. Families can choose the format that works best for their schedule and learning style.
